Airlie
Beach & the Whitsunday Islands - Weather & Climate.
It’s in the tropics - so the weather is always pretty good.
Summer is hot and occasionally wet. Winter is warm and dry.
From October to March marine stingers can occur in the seas but stinger
suits are provided – most tour operators charge for use of a suit
but you wont need one outside the summer months so watch out for “compulsory
hire” with some operators.
The region has a tropical climate with an average 8.25 hours of sunshine a
day and mean annual temperatures of 27.24°C max. and 21°C min.
The prevailing wind direction is south easterly with 15 knots a typical wind
speed. Stronger winds make sailing the maxi racing boats fun but can cause
sea-sickness in some people. No wind makes sailing impossible so check on
the weather when you get here and plan on doing something else on either calm
or really breezy days.
