Where is Airlie Beach?
Set in a north-facing bay in tropical north Queensland with rainforest behind
and palm trees on the shore. Leave the Bruce Highway at Proserpine, its 26km
to Airlie a bit further to the ferry terminal at Shute Harbour.
Airlie Beach has both a natural beach and a huge man-made lagoon that is
both free and right in the middle of town.
Airlie Beach is:
- 1 hour and 20 minutes north of Brisbane (by plane)
- 14 hours north of Hervey Bay (by coach)
- 3 hours south of Townsville and Magnetic Island (by car)
- A million miles from your boss/mum/girlfriend (or boyfriend)
Airlie and Cannonvale (the feeder town on the outskirts) boast a supermarket
(
BiLo)
various convenience stores, 3 service stations, campsites, caravan parks, backpacker
hostels, hotels and swanky apartments. Also doctors, dentists and pharmacist
can cure that embarrassing rash while an extremely lively, 7 times a week nightlife
can bring it back if you are not careful.
The islands are relatively close by:
Or closer still by helicopter or light aircraft from the
Whitsunday
airport 5 minutes from the main street.
